Lovely Lace...and more!

Just in time for the holiday season, we are pleased to announce the release of our newest lace shawl pattern, the Lacy Shawl designed by the talented Shirley MacNulty, who also designed the Cable Rib Skirt pattern. This lightweight lacy shawl is a sampler of variations of Lacy Diamond Stitches, using 3 different variations all of which use ssk, k2 tog and the double decrease sk2p. Each horizontal lacy panel is separated by one of our favorite lace stitches, the "Purse Stitch."

The Lacy Shawl was designed in our very own Lanas Puras Melosa laceweight yarn and is shown in the colorway Truffle. The pattern is available as a single pattern download or as part of a knit kit. It is the perfect addition to any wardrobe and can be dressed up for evening or worn with your favorite pair of jeans. It is beautiful in either semi solid or variegated yarn.

We are also pleased to now offer a selection of merino Silk lace and 3 ply sock yarns handpainted by Chesnut Bay Fibers, an indie company owned by two sisters, one in Massachusetts and one in California. These gals do a beautiful job creating yarns with intense and saturated colors. We know you're going to love them as much as we do. Here is a little taste.........

Chestnut Bay Fibers also has a store at ETSY you can visit. And, also take a look at their blog.

Keep watching for some wonderful new patterns in Lanas Puras Melosa and Black Pearl 100% cashmere DK, as well as some other new and exciting goodies!

The Gull Stitch Cardigan Has Arrived!

For walks on a cool afternoon or curling up by the fire on a chilly, winter evening, this cardigan is the perfect wardrobe addition. The against-the-skin softness of the yarn and mock turtleneck make it a cozy sweater ideal for casual wear indoors or out. The gull stitch detail makes for interesting knitting that is simple enough for even the novice cable knitter.

The Gull Stitch Cardigan is shown in Lanas Puras Melosa, worsted weight yarn in Desert Bloom, one of our most popular colorways. It was designed by the very talented Debbie O'Neill who also designed the Arrowhead Lace Cardigan exclusively for One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

The cardigan is available as a pattern download or as part of a knit kit which includes the pattern download and the yarn in Desert Bloom. Like all of the patterns created by our design team here at One Planet Yarn and Fiber, the cardigan pattern is sized to fit all women, ranging from XS-3x.

Patterns, patterns, patterns!

Here at One Planet Yarn and Fiber, we love patterns to showcase our gorgeous yarns and we especially love being able to provide you with beautiful, unique, and fashion forward patterns created exclusively for us by our fabulous design team. We are once again thrilled to announce the release of our newest pattern, the Arrowhead Lace Cardigan designed by the very talented Debbie O'Neill. Debbie has been knitting for nearly 20 years and has been teaching knitting and designing knit wear for the past 10 years. Her designs have appeared in Interweave Knits, Knit Simple, the Ethnic Knits series by Donna Druchunas and various House of White Birches books. She also has a line of self published patterns and works with a variety of yarn companies and small retailers. When she is not knitting, designing, or working her day job, Debbie spins, weaves, quilts, sews garments, does needlework, and spends as much time as possible with her family. While Debbie doesn’t have a blog, you can find her on ravelry.com.

The Arrowhead Lace Cardigan is a surprisingly straightforward knit with elegant results. The body is lacy, while the sleeves are solid with a lacy cuff lending a bell effect. Dress it up with a skirt or wear it with your favorite jeans. The pattern is shown here in lovely Lanas Puras Melosa, fingering weight yarn, in the Fern Green colorway. The pattern is sized all the way from women's x-small through 3x. A size small uses only 3 skeins of Lanas Puras Melosa!

The pattern is available as part of a yarn kit or as a single pattern download. It would be a wonderful addition to your wardrobe or would make a special holiday gift for a favorite friend or family member.

Elijah is Here!

We are so happy to announce the release of yet another sweater pattern in Lanas Puras Melosa, this time an adorable pullover for your favorite baby! Elijah was designed by Heather Davis. Heather has been knitting since childhood and more recently began designing and blogging from her base in North Carolina. She works as a project coordinator for public health research in DR Congo and enjoys dreaming up new garments in her spare time. On her layovers, she checks out the local knitting goods, and can tell you from experience which airlines and airports won't let you through with needles.

Elijah is a beginner/intermediate pattern and is sized all the way from 3 months-18 months. It is so warm, soft and cozy when knit up in Lanas Puras Melosa worsted weight yarn and fits easily over baby's head. It is darling for either a boy or a girl and is shown in the picture below in two of our favorite Lanas Puras Melosa colorways, Cornflower for boys and Orchid for girls. Of course, this sweater would be sweet knit up in many of our other Lanas Puras Melosa colorways as well.

Elijah is knit in one piece and uses only 2 skeins of Lanas Puras Melosa, worsted weight yarn. It would make a wonderful gift for that special baby boy or girl in your life.

The fabulous patterns knit by our talented design staff here at One PlanetYarn and Fiber just keep on coming. We have several really lovely sweater patterns almost ready for release so keep your eyes open!

Autumn is officially here and the evenings are getting cooler. Why not throw a lovely shawl made with Lanas Puras Melosa over your shoulders!?? We are so pleased to announce the release of the lovely Desert Nights Shawl designed by Pam Covert. Pam is the talented designer who also designed the Llama Bag, an exclusive pattern for One Planet Yarn and Fiber, in Lanas Puras Melosa. This shawl has the beautiful wool to keep you warm but is surprisingly light. The pattern includes both knit and crochet versions using large sized needles and airy stitches to create a light and drapey fabric you’ll love to wear on a cool evening anywhere. Large stitches mean these shawls work up quickly, making them a great gift giving project! The stitches used are easily mastered by the beginning stitcher.

New Patterns for Fall in Lanas Puras Melosa!!

Fall will soon be upon us and what better way to celebrate the end of summer than to knit something new and beautiful! We are super excited to release two gorgeous new patterns in our very own Lanas Puras Melosa that will help you transition in style to the cooler weather.

The Cable Pleated Skirt is a chic pattern designed by Shirley MacNulty. Shirley is a professional knitwear designer, teacher, author and technical editor, and is a charter member and jury coordinator of the Association of Knitwear Designers (International). She is also a member of the National Needlearts Association, the Knitting Guild Association, and the Blue Ridge Fiber Guild. She has a great deal of experience designing patterns for both knitting companies and magazines.

The Cable Pleated Skirt is Shirley's first pattern designed exclusively for One Planet Yarn and Fiber and is shown here in Lanas Puras Melosa, fingering weight, in the blueberry colorway. The skirt is knit from the top down, a method that makes it easy to try on the skirt as you knit to be sure of the fit. The style is a simple classic, flattering to almost any body shape and can be knit in either a fashionable above-the-knee length as shown or in a longer length. It looks wonderful with boots or flats.

Analise is a fabulous dress designed by the talented Amy Marshall. Amy learned to hand knit in college from a performer she worked with at Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later, in her college career she learned to machine knit on a hand loom, incorporating several knit pieces in her senior collection and she quickly began designing and knitting her own patterns. Amy started selling some of her handcrafted items in 2004 when she left the corporate world to work independently and began designing and writing patterns for publication in 2006. You can visit her Etsy store to shop for some of her lovely handcrafted items. Analise is a simple, but stunning cowl neck dress which looks fabulous over a pair of leggings with or without a shirt layered underneath it. The ribbon tie provides flattering shaping. The design works beautifully with handpainted variegated yarn and features our own Lanas Puras Melosa fingering weight yarn shown here in the Sunset colorway.

Be Sweet Bamboo Yarn, Chewy Spaghetti, next week and Nell's Clapotis

June 12th

There is so much to say in one post for the week!

First a reminder again that we are closed from Wed evening, the 13th through Sunday evening the 17th. The store is open and orders can be placed, but they will all be shipped Monday and emails will be answered then. Can you tell we are nervous about leaving it for a few days? I am sure it will be ok!!

We are getting in an unreal quantity of yarn! Probably too much, but we will view it as if we are all set for the fall.

Be Sweet Bamboo Yarn
We got in today the Be Sweet Bamboo yarn. This yarn is incredibly incredibly beautiful. It is very soft and has a lovely shine to it. It knits up into a very breathable and next to your skin soft fabric. I knit a swatch in the blue green color and thought it would make an incredibly light weight lacy shawl or a light weight sweater. The colors are amazing, and it was hard to choose where to start! We just picked a range of six colors. Here is the pretty blue green one I mentioned and also one of the rose pink which is just incredible!! The price is great too! It is a DK weight yarn so it has loads of uses!! Consider this for any DK weight project. The yarn is hand dyed by South African women and you are supporting a great cause also by purchasing the yarn. A portion of the sales to go a jobs creation program and a school program for poverty stricken South Africans. The yarn is also considered ecofriendly (friendly for the environment ) and antibacterial! It is great for baby items! But also for adults as well. If you are sensitive to wool and/or live in a warm climate, this could be a fantastic yarn for you.

Chewy Spaghetti Sock Yarn

We just posted quite a few skeins of Chewy Spaghetti Sock yarn. This yarn is GORGEOUS! Her colors are getting better and better and this is a great new yarn for her "spaghetti" superwash merino with a tight twist. Grab it while it lasts. It usually does very well.

Next Week-

-Yarn Pirate yarns will definitely be listed next week. Look for a blog post on Monday or Tuesday for a definite date. I am guessing Wed, the 20th is the day.

-We will be introducing a brand new company called Artesano. They are based in England and we are very excited to be their very first US retailer. They have amazing patterns and incredible yarns. They are also very affordable and I think all of our customers will really love their products. More details next week.

-We have a new shipment from Sereknity of the most beautiful new sock yarns, sock bags and spindle bags. Heather of Sereknity outdid her self this time, and the items she sent us are simply beautiful!

We wanted to also share with you some photos that were sent in to us of a project knit with two skeins of Lanas Puras Melosa Fingering weight yarn in Mountain Sky.

Nell, a very nice person as well as a talented new knitter, sent us these photos of her incredibly gorgeous Clapotis shawl knit in Lanas Puras Melosa. Can you believe how gorgeous this is? We had to share these photos with all of you!! We are starting a customer gallery of creations so please send in photos if you have made anything at all with yarns you have purchased at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. We'll send you a little gift for submitting photos to the gallery!

Here is Nell's Clapotis. It is simply gorgeous and look how she coordinated her clothes to match. She looks like a beautiful model!

Thank you Nell, for sharing your photos with us!

On To The Felted Bags!!!

-The Llama Bag, designed by Pamela Covert

The first pattern is the Llama Bag designed by Pamela Covert. Pam has been knitting and crocheting since she was about 8 and for years she was making her own creations but just never took the time to write up patterns. Now that most of her kids have left the nest, she has taken the plunge and started designing professionally. Pam is a designer who loves to work with a lot of color and that is apparent with just a glance at the Llama Bag. The bag is a fun and colorful generously sized tote perfect for use as a purse or a knitting/crochet bag. If you’ve never tried tapestry crochet you will find this to be a great introduction to the technique, which is fully explained in the instructions. Experienced crocheters will enjoy this fun pattern and the changes of color. The Llama Bag is available as a download pattern at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Yarn requirements are listed on the pattern description. If you are on our mailing list, you will be getting a special offer for the month of June.

- The Hexagon Bag, designed by Connie Chang

For a complete change of style, we are pleased to introduce the beautiful Hexagon Bag designed by Connie Chang. Connie is a physicist, knitting maniac, and a relatively new, but extremely talented knitwear designer. The Hexagon Bag knits up easily in two shades of Lanas Puras Melosa yarn. The fair isle main panels give a niceweight to the bag while the bottom and shaped sidepanels are worked in cushy garter stitch. Install a zipper, knit the short shoulder strap and you're ready to go with a structured, elegant handbag for evenings out or Sunday shopping. The Hexagon Bag pattern is available as a pattern download at One Planet Yarn and Fiber now. The Lanas Puras Melosa yarn used in the bag is listed on the pattern listing.

Just a reminder! We are closed from Wednesday afternoon June 13th to Monday June 17th! Just a few days for a summer break! The website will still take your orders and they will all be shipped on Tuesday the 19th. All emails will be answered on the 18th!

We have two brand new companies being added this this month. Watch this space. A new Fleece Artist order is arriving with lots of kits and yarns. A new Hand Maiden order too and a new order from Perl Grey , their sister company! Sunshine Yarns were just added to the site-yummy!! As promised the exact dates will be posted here.

Enjoy these bags plus our other new Lanas Puras Melosa patterns!! If you are not on our mailing list, please join for special offers this month!!

New Patterns and More on the Way!

New Lanas Puras Melosa Patterns- now available by download. These patterns are currently exclusive to One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

We have two exciting new patterns to release this week, both shown in our beautiful hand painted Lanas Puras Melosa yarn.

We are thrilled to introduce the second of our new felting patterns, the "Soothe Yourself Spa Set," designed by the very talented Sara Lucas. Sara is the founder of the Yarn of the Month Club and has designed many patterns, including the lovely Milanese Lace Glove pattern for One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Sara is also the author of several knitting books, including a new one releasing soon called "Baby Knits Kit: Instructions and Tools for 20 Snuggly Projects" The "Soothe Yourself Spa Set" pattern is an advanced beginner pattern which uses two contrasting colors of Lanas Puras Melosa fingering weight yarn to creat a neck roll and a matching eye pillow. After knitting and felting, the neck roll is fit over a pillow form and the eye pillow is stuffed with your choice of filling. We recommend including some relaxing lavender to bring a little "Zen" into your life! What a wonderful way to treat yourself or that someone special in your life!

(Kirsten relaxing)

We are also happy to introduce a fabulous new sock pattern designed by Lucia Tedesco, the "Lacy Mock Cable Socks." Lucia was born and raised in Roma, Italy. Her mom taught her how to knit during a very rainy vacation on the Dolomites when she was fourteen years old and she has hardly put her needles down ever since. She now lives in the Silicon Valley with her husband who makes her espresso in the morning, her two children, Principessa and Paperino, and her knitting that she still calls "maglia." You can read all about her knitting adventures on her blog.

These lacy socks are an easy to knit, intermediate level pattern which have the look of cables, but are knit with yarn overs and decreases. The socks feature gusset increases, a slipped stitch heel flap, and a round heel and are knit, suprisingly from the toe-up. The pattern uses just one skein of Lanas Puras Melosa, fingering weight yarn. The colorway shown is Fantasy, but these socks would be beautiful in any of our many colorways of Lanas Puras Melosa.

Watch this space for more new patterns coming soon to One Planet Yarn and Fiber!

Make sure to check our "What's New" page for all kinds of new products! The Sock Diva Sock Bugs and Baby Bugs are back for a visit, we have gorgeous handblended spinning fiber batts from Madelinetosh and other new things.....!!
