What's new this week

What's New This Week

We are still adding many new yarns and other fun things every single day! This week we will be adding a new shipment of Madelinetosh yarn. Madelinetosh is a fairly new company based out of Texas. She handpaints all of her yarns and she also makes the luxury spinning batts you have seen on our site. We have been getting great reviews on the hand blended spinning batts and more are going to be added soon! Her yarns are absolutely beautiful and the fiber itself is so soft!! So if you are a handpainted sock yarn lover, this is your week! Over half of the yarns sold within the first hour of posting, but there are some beautiful ones left and more in the future.

We also got a new shipment in from Fleece Artist and HandMaiden. There are many new colors of Sea Silk Yarn, Sea Wool yarn and Merino Sock Yarn! All three are great for lace work, shawls, summer tops and the sea wool and merino have sock patterns on the labels. There are several new colors of our favorite kits and some new kits too. Look at this gorgeous "Lady of the Lake" sweater kit and the beautiful huge skein that makes it!! This is in olive green, the color shown in the pattern photo:

All the new yarn and kit colors will be added by the end of today Tuesday.! There are new colors for all of the yarns and kits we carry. More yarns and kits are coming soon! Make sure to click on "more info" on most of the listings as we added some photos of the Fleece Artist and Hand Maiden skeins so you can see what they are like! Nothing is as exciting as opening up a box from these companies. The yarns are too gorgeous for words!! The photographs don't capture their beauty. Look at these three HUGE HUGE skeins of yarn that are used for the Soft Wavy Wrap. They are simply beautiful!! This kit can also be used for a pattern called the Alpaca Garter Stitch Jacket which we are providing free with each soft wavy wrap kit. Take a look at three of these gorgeous skeins in spring, glacier and pale pink. We are placing a new order with Fleece Artist and Hand Maiden this week. Would you like a special order? We can get any kit or yarn on their website for you in any color, so please let us know! We will be adding on several more kits and yarns in our next order!

One of our wonderful customers, Leslie, sent in some photos of her beautiful Fleece Artist Celtic Vest Kit that she made in the color madder. We just added quite a few new colors in size M/L and Small. This vest kit can also be ordered in an XL by the way. Aren't these photos great. This is not Leslie by the way, but her friend, who is a wonderful model! Thanks Leslie and friend!

We also have a new shipment of beautiful fiber jewelry from Perl Grey Studios. Perl Grey is Fleece Artist's "sister" company in Nova Scotia. This is a family run business that has been in the pewter business for 5 generations! They also develop knit kits with the Fleece Artist yarns. In this shipment we added some new "buttonsticks" which are wonderful as shawl pins or on any sweater. We also have more of the very popular "ringsticks" and some adorable new black sheep earrings!! Everything new will be listed this week. Take a peek at a few items here, my favorite black sheep earrings and a gorgeous ring stick made of pewter in the shape of a leaf. Make sure to check out all of the new items on our "What's New Page"

Also from Fleece Artist, we have new spinning fibers in gorgeous colors in both merino and silk and blue faced leicester so spinners enjoy! These should be posted on Wednesday!

Coming soon!

Coming in July.. Watch for Jo Sharp yarns and patternbooks to finally be released in July! The Fall JO Sharp book and yarns should be here by August. Also our beautiful new Lanas Puras Clarissa is here and it is beautiful and really different! It is a handpainted 50% cotton and 50% wool yarn in a heavy DK weight. It has some texture to it and the dyeing gives it a tweed effect. We can't wait to show you and to have our designers get to work with it! We have some other great surprises in store for you as well.......

Artesano Ltd- Welcome to North America!

We are proud to be the very first US knitting store to carry yarns from Artesano LTD, based out of the United Kingdom! They are a family run business committed to ethical trading practices. Artesano's main suppliers are based in Peru and and some yarn also comes from Bolivia, one of the poorest countries in South America. Artesano has been very careful to work with co-operatives and companies that have a good record of looking after the people that work for them. The yarns are the highest quality and softest pure alpaca yarns we have felt. There are currently three yarns, Inca Cloud, a superfine alpaca, Inca Mist, a baby alpaca and Hummingbird, a space dyed multicolor alpaca yarn. They are all DK weight and interchangeable in patterns. For those of you who love sock yarn, Artesano's Hummingbird yarn is amazing. It somes in HUGE 150 gram skeins in a variety of colors. You will have a pair of super luxurious socks.

We chose Artesano because of their smaller size, the high quality of the alpaca yarn, the range of colors offered, their commitment to ethical trading practices, and also because they have fantastic and modern pattern support! Most of the patterns are designed by Jean Moss, a well known knitwear designer in the UK. Her designs are absolutely gorgeous! We are proud to carry all of the patterns and the yarn you will need to knit them. Here are a few of our favorites. Also there is a fantastic pattern book, which is a wonderful value because it has TEN of Jean Moss's patterns in it. Make sure to take a look at it.

All of Artesano's yarns and patterns are now available at One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

Other announcements:

Yarn Pirate yarns will be posted Wednesday morning around 10:00 am, MST. We also have gorgeous new yarns and from Sereknity. Be Sweet Bamboo Yarn, Chewy Spaghetti, next week and Nell's Clapotis

June 12th

There is so much to say in one post for the week!

First a reminder again that we are closed from Wed evening, the 13th through Sunday evening the 17th. The store is open and orders can be placed, but they will all be shipped Monday and emails will be answered then. Can you tell we are nervous about leaving it for a few days? I am sure it will be ok!!

We are getting in an unreal quantity of yarn! Probably too much, but we will view it as if we are all set for the fall.

Be Sweet Bamboo Yarn
We got in today the Be Sweet Bamboo yarn. This yarn is incredibly incredibly beautiful. It is very soft and has a lovely shine to it. It knits up into a very breathable and next to your skin soft fabric. I knit a swatch in the blue green color and thought it would make an incredibly light weight lacy shawl or a light weight sweater. The colors are amazing, and it was hard to choose where to start! We just picked a range of six colors. Here is the pretty blue green one I mentioned and also one of the rose pink which is just incredible!! The price is great too! It is a DK weight yarn so it has loads of uses!! Consider this for any DK weight project. The yarn is hand dyed by South African women and you are supporting a great cause also by purchasing the yarn. A portion of the sales to go a jobs creation program and a school program for poverty stricken South Africans. The yarn is also considered ecofriendly (friendly for the environment ) and antibacterial! It is great for baby items! But also for adults as well. If you are sensitive to wool and/or live in a warm climate, this could be a fantastic yarn for you.

Chewy Spaghetti Sock Yarn

We just posted quite a few skeins of Chewy Spaghetti Sock yarn. This yarn is GORGEOUS! Her colors are getting better and better and this is a great new yarn for her "spaghetti" superwash merino with a tight twist. Grab it while it lasts. It usually does very well.

Next Week-

-Yarn Pirate yarns will definitely be listed next week. Look for a blog post on Monday or Tuesday for a definite date. I am guessing Wed, the 20th is the day.

-We will be introducing a brand new company called Artesano. They are based in England and we are very excited to be their very first US retailer. They have amazing patterns and incredible yarns. They are also very affordable and I think all of our customers will really love their products. More details next week.

-We have a new shipment from Sereknity of the most beautiful new sock yarns, sock bags and spindle bags. Heather of Sereknity outdid her self this time, and the items she sent us are simply beautiful!

We wanted to also share with you some photos that were sent in to us of a project knit with two skeins of Lanas Puras Melosa Fingering weight yarn in Mountain Sky.

Nell, a very nice person as well as a talented new knitter, sent us these photos of her incredibly gorgeous Clapotis shawl knit in Lanas Puras Melosa. Can you believe how gorgeous this is? We had to share these photos with all of you!! We are starting a customer gallery of creations so please send in photos if you have made anything at all with yarns you have purchased at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. We'll send you a little gift for submitting photos to the gallery!

Here is Nell's Clapotis. It is simply gorgeous and look how she coordinated her clothes to match. She looks like a beautiful model!

Thank you Nell, for sharing your photos with us!

Felting is HOT!! New Bag Patterns!

Felting is HOT this year and we are excited to introduce not just one, but two new felting bag patterns in our Lanas Puras, Melosa. Lanas Puras Melosa felts beautifully. If you haven't tried it yet, you will be in a for a treat! Lanas Puras is our own exclusive line of yarns from South America. Melosa is from Uruguay. We will be getting a new yarn Lanas Puras yarn "Clarissa" in the next month. It is a DK weight 50% cotton, 50% merino in huge 100 gram skeins! We are excited about this yarn, so watch this space for more info!

On To The Felted Bags!!!

-The Llama Bag, designed by Pamela Covert

The first pattern is the Llama Bag designed by Pamela Covert. Pam has been knitting and crocheting since she was about 8 and for years she was making her own creations but just never took the time to write up patterns. Now that most of her kids have left the nest, she has taken the plunge and started designing professionally. Pam is a designer who loves to work with a lot of color and that is apparent with just a glance at the Llama Bag. The bag is a fun and colorful generously sized tote perfect for use as a purse or a knitting/crochet bag. If you’ve never tried tapestry crochet you will find this to be a great introduction to the technique, which is fully explained in the instructions. Experienced crocheters will enjoy this fun pattern and the changes of color. The Llama Bag is available as a download pattern at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Yarn requirements are listed on the pattern description. If you are on our mailing list, you will be getting a special offer for the month of June.

- The Hexagon Bag, designed by Connie Chang

For a complete change of style, we are pleased to introduce the beautiful Hexagon Bag designed by Connie Chang. Connie is a physicist, knitting maniac, and a relatively new, but extremely talented knitwear designer. The Hexagon Bag knits up easily in two shades of Lanas Puras Melosa yarn. The fair isle main panels give a niceweight to the bag while the bottom and shaped sidepanels are worked in cushy garter stitch. Install a zipper, knit the short shoulder strap and you're ready to go with a structured, elegant handbag for evenings out or Sunday shopping. The Hexagon Bag pattern is available as a pattern download at One Planet Yarn and Fiber now. The Lanas Puras Melosa yarn used in the bag is listed on the pattern listing.

Just a reminder! We are closed from Wednesday afternoon June 13th to Monday June 17th! Just a few days for a summer break! The website will still take your orders and they will all be shipped on Tuesday the 19th. All emails will be answered on the 18th!

We have two brand new companies being added this this month. Watch this space. A new Fleece Artist order is arriving with lots of kits and yarns. A new Hand Maiden order too and a new order from Perl Grey , their sister company! Sunshine Yarns were just added to the site-yummy!! And for those of you waiting for Yarn Pirate, the yarn will not be listed until the week of the 19th but we are shooting definitely for that week. It isn't here yet. As promised the exact dates will be posted here.

Enjoy these bags plus our other new Lanas Puras Melosa patterns!! If you are not on our mailing list, please join for special offers this month!!

New Patterns and More on the Way!

New Lanas Puras Melosa Patterns- now available by download. These patterns are currently exclusive to One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

We have two exciting new patterns to release this week, both shown in our beautiful hand painted Lanas Puras Melosa yarn.

We are thrilled to introduce the second of our new felting patterns, the "Soothe Yourself Spa Set," designed by the very talented Sara Lucas. Sara is the founder of the Yarn of the Month Club and has designed many patterns, including the lovely Milanese Lace Glove pattern for One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Sara is also the author of several knitting books, including a new one releasing soon called "Baby Knits Kit: Instructions and Tools for 20 Snuggly Projects" The "Soothe Yourself Spa Set" pattern is an advanced beginner pattern which uses two contrasting colors of Lanas Puras Melosa fingering weight yarn to creat a neck roll and a matching eye pillow. After knitting and felting, the neck roll is fit over a pillow form and the eye pillow is stuffed with your choice of filling. We recommend including some relaxing lavender to bring a little "Zen" into your life! What a wonderful way to treat yourself or that someone special in your life!

(Kirsten relaxing)

We are also happy to introduce a fabulous new sock pattern designed by Lucia Tedesco, the "Lacy Mock Cable Socks." Lucia was born and raised in Roma, Italy. Her mom taught her how to knit during a very rainy vacation on the Dolomites when she was fourteen years old and she has hardly put her needles down ever since. She now lives in the Silicon Valley with her husband who makes her espresso in the morning, her two children, Principessa and Paperino, and her knitting that she still calls "maglia." You can read all about her knitting adventures on her blog.

These lacy socks are an easy to knit, intermediate level pattern which have the look of cables, but are knit with yarn overs and decreases. The socks feature gusset increases, a slipped stitch heel flap, and a round heel and are knit, suprisingly from the toe-up. The pattern uses just one skein of Lanas Puras Melosa, fingering weight yarn. The colorway shown is Fantasy, but these socks would be beautiful in any of our many colorways of Lanas Puras Melosa.

Watch this space for more new patterns coming soon to One Planet Yarn and Fiber!

Make sure to check our "What's New" page for all kinds of new products! The Sock Diva Sock Bugs and Baby Bugs are back for a visit, we have gorgeous handblended spinning fiber batts from Madelinetosh and other new things.....!!

New this week! Patterns! Patterns!

We have quite a few exclusive One Planet Yarn and Fiber patterns releasing soon. Please watch this space and you may see a new pattern every single week!!! It is very exciting, because we have an incredibly talented group of designers working with us!!

A New Yarn Botanika Pattern!

We are proud to be releasing a new pattern Gina House. Gina has published her first patterns at One Planet Yarn and Fiber including the Haiku Flower socks in Black Pearl Yarns cashmere and the Radiance Lace Headband.

This pattern is called the Lovely Waters Tablerunner, and it is simply exquisite! The yarn shown in the pattern is Yarn Botanika hand dyed DK weight superwash merino in the colorway called Blue Moon. This gorgeous table runner was somewhat difficult to photograph because the lace pattern is so beautiful, and the item is long, so it was hard to get a photo that really showed the detail. There are also beads on the end, and you can see these in one of the photos.

Yarn Botanika Radiance DK weight yarn and another would be the Sheep Shop 3 merino and silk yarn. Either of these would be gorgeous in this yarn. A heavier fingering weight yarn could be used, for example the Fleece Artist Sea Wool Sock yarn which is also washable is perfect for this pattern and we are getting more new colors in soon! Also check in the "indie company" section of our site for sport weight/DK weight yarns that might work for this lovely pattern!

Coming Soon

We have many patterns coming soon. We have felted patterns coming including a felted Spa Set and several felted bags in Lanas Puras melosa. We also will be adding beautiful patterns from a company called Knitspot.com. We have hand dyed yarns, fibers, spinning batts, and knitting bags coming from Madelinetosh and Funky Carolina. Another Yarn Pirate shipment is expected by the end of this week! We have a huge new shipment of Lanas Puras Melosa yarns coming with a many colors of lace, fingering and worsted weight yarns. We also have a new Lanas Puras Yarn coming soon called Lanas Puras Clarissa!! We are very excited about this new yarn! It is being spun exclusively for One Planet Yarn and Fiber in Uruguay. It is 50% cotton and 50% merino wool (the same lovely Lanas Puras merino) in big DK weight skeins. In June, will be adding two new yarn companies (exciting!!) and we should have a new Fleece Artist order here!

More about all of these new offerings soon!

May 9th- What's New This Week

We have another week of a lot of new items.... It can't continue like this forever, feeling like a holiday but for now it is quite a bit of fun to unpack boxes full of amazing yarns and other goodies.

First, we got a few skeins of yarn in from our favorite handspinner, Rachel Dow, of RMD designs. Her handspun yarns are amazing, just because of the colors and the care that goes into each skein. I have made a few drop stitch scarves from her yarns for gifts and people always oohed and ahhed because the colors are so amazing. Visit Rachel's section of our shop and really even a simple stitch pattern with her yarns makes an amazing scarf or shawl. You could knit up a shawl on really big needless and a loose stitch and have an amazing garment. Here is one of her skeins that came in tis week.

We received an entire shipment of Be Sweet products, which we could go on and on about. They have the most unusual yarns in the prettiest colors and they are a company with a great vision and philolophy. Please read about them on our site and take a look at the Magic Balls and patterns and kits! When I saw this sweater, I just fell in love and I have to make it for myself. We decided to put it into kit form, which we sell on our site! The magic balls and kits are already selling so soon we'll have to buy more magic balls and more kits ..

And what is a magic ball by the way? They are amazing little creations of different kinds of yarns, hand dyed and handspun by women in South Africa, full of different textures and colors. Several of the patterns call for only one magic ball.... Here is a "hot sundae" magic ball-the colors are delicious and one ball can make a tote bag or a little clutch. A few can make a scarf, shawl or sweater, so take a peak at all the Be Sweet Products.

Last but definitely not least, for spinners and aspiring spinners everywhere, how lucky are we to have our first shipment of hand turned spindles from Avi Wasserman in Israel. Avi is a very talented artisan and an interesting and nice person! His background is actually in engineering and he takes the production of each of spindles quite seriously. He uses amazing exotic woods and adds other unique features like inlay silver that you will not see anywhere on other spindles. As we went through them to photograph, we oohed and ahhed and I want every one! It is very very difficult these days to find spindles like this so we hope those of you who like to spin, will want to add these to your collection! We also have loads of new spinning fiber coming in the next few months so watch the spinning section. Here are examples of two of Avi Wasserman's spindles. The first is a beautiful dyed blue Queensland maple spindle that also uses ebony wood. The shaft is made from mahogany.

This second one is an example of Avi's new spindle designs that have the precious silver inlaid into them. These really are unusual and one of a kind works of art! We hope to be showing many of Avi's other designs in the future.

That is it for now..... except don't forget to join our mailing list for special private offers, etc. We typically send out a mailer once per month or every other month and never share your name or contact information.

The Bugs Are Here and more!

When we opened up the box of Sock Bugs and Omiyage "Baby Bugs" from Diana of Sock Diva, we just about flipped at the colors and quality of the fabrics she chose. She uses only the very nicest, most colorful and sturdy 100% cotton quilt fabric. Diana has an amazing color sense and truly each "bug" is a work of art!!

The smaller "Omiyage baby bugs"are perfect notions bag. Two of them can snap on to a bigger Sock Bug. They are absolutely adorable and not just that, very well made in beautiful colors. The Sock Bugs are equally amazing. They have a velcro pocket, that can't really be seen in the photos very well, to hold scizzors or a tape measure or needles. Each Sock Bug has room inside easily for sock yarn and your needles and a pattern. Or use for any smaller project. There is 40 inch fabric handle and a drawstring "mouth" closure to keep your items neat.

Meet a few of our favorite "bugs." The photos honestly don't do them justice. The fabrics are so exquisite-hand dyed fabric, watercolor and batik patterns.

What else?

I promised photos of the new Chewy Spaghetti and A Piece of Vermont Yarns. First, Chewy Spaghettti sent us lovely lovely large skeins of lace weight merino and silk yarn (50/50). The yarn just gleams in beautiful colors! We are getting more sock yarn soon from Chewy soon...

Jessie, from A Piece of Vermont, has been working for months to find the best combination of pure Vermont fibers. She finally has released her 100% Vermonter yarn called "Weybridge." It is a hearty yarn, a mixture of several fibers hand dyed in gorgeous colors. We see many hand dyed yarns at One Planet Yarn and Fiber, and the interesting thing is how everyone has a different approach to dyeing despite using similar "ingredients." Jessie's colorways have a base color with subtle shading and then bits of other colors mixed in. Truly each yarn is unique. Here is a skein of "Weybridge" yarn.

We just received a shipment of Yarn Pirate yarn!! It will be up on the site soon. And in the next three weeks we have several exciting new companies so watch this spot for announcements!!

HAPPY MAY!!

About HipKnits and other things...

We are super excited to have HipKnits, UK products on our website with even more on the way. Kerrie Allman, the founder and owner of HipKnits, UK really is a talented and hardworking fiber artist. She is someone who has done it all in a way. She started HipKnits, UK and now hand dyes 20 different types of yarns for her studio and store. She hired designers very early to do patterns for her yarn and this was a very smart move on her part. She also does her own designs to provide free pattern support to customers who purchase her yarn. She founded the online knit magazine many know about called MagKnits. She also recently founded a UK based knitting magazine that we now carry at One Planet Yarn and Fiber, called Yarn Forward. It is currently listed in our "magazines and books section." She also owns a really neat company called SewHip! How much can one person do! We won't even mention her personal life! On top of this, she is an incredibly nice person unaffected by her success and a real pleasure to work with. HipKnits, UK is actually the type of company we like being affiliated with at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Please make sure to start at Kerrie's blog and read all about her and her various enterprises.

We currently are carrying HipKnits silk and cashmere yarns along sari silk yarn and sock yarns and patterns. We did not get all of the silk yarn, which actually is the yarn that supports most of the patterns and it will be here soon. Her sock yarn is beautiful and the cashmere is amazing. The yardage on the skeins is high so take a close look. Even if a skein says $ 38.99, if it has 750 yards of fingering cashmere, that is a lot of cashmere for the price! Here is one of our favorite sock yarns called Subtle, which is almost sold out already. We love the subtle colors of the skein
!

Here is one of our favorite patterns done in HipKnits sock weight cashmere designed by One Planet Yarn and Fiber's own Creative Director, Melissa Wehrle. It is called Annabelle and is available by download as all the other HipKnits patterns are. Plus, there are lots of patterns that are free with a purchase of HipKnits yarns.

What else is new or coming soon?

We have three new WoolPets needle felting kits-a bunny, a blue bell and an intermediate kit called Sheep. These are hot sellers because they are so much fun and they teach people basic needle felting skills while completing a project. In the next two days, we'll be posting gorgeous new lace yarns from Chewy Spaghetti and a beautiful new shipment of yarns from A Piece of Vermont. This time, A Piece of Vermont, sent along "real Vermonter" yarn too! We'll show some photos soon. We have two cotton yarns coming and a new bamboo yarn from several new amazing companies which will remain a surprise for now!! And we have a order from Yarn Pirate coming in the next few days with another one promised for May!! PLUS, we are adding two of the most amazing new indie companies, along with two spindle makers. And we have about six or so exclusive patterns also releasing!! So, you can see we have lots of exciting news and products now and coming soon.

For dyers or smaller yarn companies, we are selling beautiful undyed yarn from Uruguay. See our "wholesale only" section for more info!!

Also, only a few more days for the April sale..... Certain products are 10% and 15% off for only a few more days, including all books and magazines by the way and they are already discounted. If you didn't get the flier or want one again, let us know. Because there won't be another sale most likely for awhile. With independent artisans and smaller yarn companies, it is hard to have sales on products because they are all handmade......

Bye for now!
