Lovely Lace...and more!

Just in time for the holiday season, we are pleased to announce the release of our newest lace shawl pattern, the Lacy Shawl designed by the talented Shirley MacNulty, who also designed the Cable Rib Skirt pattern. This lightweight lacy shawl is a sampler of variations of Lacy Diamond Stitches, using 3 different variations all of which use ssk, k2 tog and the double decrease sk2p. Each horizontal lacy panel is separated by one of our favorite lace stitches, the "Purse Stitch."

The Lacy Shawl was designed in our very own Lanas Puras Melosa laceweight yarn and is shown in the colorway Truffle. The pattern is available as a single pattern download or as part of a knit kit. It is the perfect addition to any wardrobe and can be dressed up for evening or worn with your favorite pair of jeans. It is beautiful in either semi solid or variegated yarn.

We are also pleased to now offer a selection of merino Silk lace and 3 ply sock yarns handpainted by Chesnut Bay Fibers, an indie company owned by two sisters, one in Massachusetts and one in California. These gals do a beautiful job creating yarns with intense and saturated colors. We know you're going to love them as much as we do. Here is a little taste.........

Chestnut Bay Fibers also has a store at ETSY you can visit. And, also take a look at their blog.

Keep watching for some wonderful new patterns in Lanas Puras Melosa and Black Pearl 100% cashmere DK, as well as some other new and exciting goodies!

Anne Hanson Kits, HandMaiden Yarns

We have some very exciting things happening here at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. Truthfully, we are having trouble keeping with photographing all the new yarns and getting them on the site. Our priority is always first on getting all your packages out to you and we have been busy!

New Knit Kits with designs by Anne Hanson from Knitspot.com.

Anne has completed two incredible lace knitting patterns using Lanas Puras Melosa lace weight yarn. The designs are two beautiful for words! We are currently taking pre-orders for kits for each of these. This will really help us know how much yarn to order because the skeins in these colors typically sell out the minute we list them. First is the beautiful Boing Scarf knit in Desert Bloom. This takes just one skein of lace yarn and the kit includes the yarn and the pattern. Second is the beautiful Star of the Evening Shawl knit in Twilight. There are several versions of this shawl. The petite uses one skein, the tall two skeins, and then there are directions for a scarf-sized triangle or shawlette that will take 350 yards of yarn. The Boing Kit is already listed on our website, the Star of the Evening will be listed in just a few days. The actual kits will be mailed out at the end of May or as soon as the yarn arrives from South America. Here is a photo of the Boing Scarf Kit, and a sneak preview of Star of the Evening.

Farmhouse Yarns and Patterns

When we were at the TNNA convention, last January, the Farmhouse Yarns booth really stood out to us. They had tons of colorful hand painted yarns in all kinds of fibers all the around the booth. But also we really enjoyed meeting the owner and hearing her story and the company's philosophy. The people at Farmhouse Yarns truly love sheep, yarn, fiber and color!! They have their own flock of sheep that they try to utilize as much as possible for their yarns. Of course some of their yarns, like Cotton Blossom by Dixie and Bonnie's Bamboo do not come from sheep!! If they don't have enough wool for their yarns, they try to buy from smaller farms rather than huge mills.

The owner, Carol, hand dyes most of the yarns herself. She loves color and you can tell this by the color combinations she chooses. Her relatives help with the cellulose fibers (cotton and bamboo) as this uses a different type of dye and process.

She has also developed a lot of patterns. Most of them are easy to follow and are fairly straightforward and designed to show off the unusual colors and fibers. I think you will fine quite a few pretty and fun lightweight sweaters to knit for the spring and summer as well as fall and winter items. We will be adding a few more of her yarns and more fall patterns towards the end of the summer......

We hope you will give Farmhouse Yarns a try. We carry the Cotton Blossom, a gorgeous worsted weight cotton/rayon blend, Fannie's Fingering, a soft fingering weight yarn, the Bonnie's Bamboo-a beautiful DK weight pure bamboo with gorgeous shine and softness and Lumpy Bumpy by Charlene, a very fun to knit bulky weight yarn that knits up quickly......

Spring Surprises Abound!

Spring has finally arrived and here at One Planet Yarn and Fiber, we have some fresh and wonderful new patterns to welcome the new season. First, we are thrilled to announce the release of our newest pattern for Lanas Puras Clarissa, the Dayflower Cardigan. The Dayflower Cardigan was designed by the incredibly talented Debbie O'Neill who also designed the Gull Stitch Cardigan and the Arrowhead Lace Cardigan. It is the perfect spring and summer sweater for just a little warmth over a camisole or sun dress. The Dayflower lace panels are elegant, but the swingy style and cap sleeves keep the cardi playful. It is available as a single pattern download or in a complete yarn kit. If you haven't had the chance to try our beautiful all season Lanas Puras Clarissa yarn, we really encourage you to give it a try. Clarissa takes the lovely and pure softness of our Uruguay merino and blends it with light weight, breathable cotton. It is a 50% cotton, 50% merino cotton comfort yarn and still has incredible artisan appeal because it is hand painted and has a very slight thick and thin texture to it. It is available in 11 different colors.

Next, we are thrilled to announce that we will now be carrying the full line of patterns designed by the wonderfully creative Kara Gott. Kara Gott Warner, designer of igottknits began her design career in the early 1990's in New York's Garment Center. In 1997, Kara started designing knitted and crocheted accessories, selling on the craft and artisan show circuit, then branching off to knitting patterns and kits. Kara's designs have been published in several popular knitting magazines. She will also be editing two upcoming knitting books.
