Favorite Felted Bag Pattern This Week and I Went to the State Fair Today

I've noticed this week on the website that many people have been looking at this pattern.  It is a felted handbag, designed by Connie Chang Chinchio using our Lanas Puras yarns.  Here is the pattern info from our website-Knit up the hexagon bag easily in two shades of Lanas Puras yarn.  The fair isle main panels give a nice weight to the bag while the bottom and shaped side panels are worked in cushy garter stitch.  Install a zipper, knit the short shoulder strap and you're ready to go with a structured, elegant handbag for evenings out or Sunday shopping.

On a personal note (yeah, right), I attended the Arizona State Fair today.  I spent my morning in the sheep barn.  What a hoot!  The animals are so beautiful, it's just breathtaking.  I managed to snag the Grand Champion Fleece, a wonderful Romney ewe in a wonderful gray.  I also picked up some award winning Cotswold fleeces including a wonderfully soft ewe lamb's fleece.  Picture coming soon.

I also spent some time with the Spinner's Guild.  Although I didn't have my wheel I did bring my knitting.  To watch the eyes of the adults and children as they came by was priceless!  Pictures coming tomorrow.

What Shall We Put On The Kids This Morning? And-Where Is My Camera When I Need It?

I need to start taking my camera along with me.  Our local farmer's market opened today and there were 2 Nubian goat kids there surrounded by wee children.  Tomorrow I am hoping to get to the State Fair.  They are judging the fleeces!  Plus my friend Susan from the Fiber Factory will be there demonstrating her spinning expertise.

Mornings are cooling off and when the sun starts to sink the kids need something warm and comfortable to wear.  How about this pattern that was designed using our own line of yarn from Lanas Puras.  (My mistake! Apologies to the designer!) Wendy Bernard is the designer for this lovely Cabo Hoodie pattern.

This One Is For A Cool Fall Day!-c2knits Brandi Cardi

Today took me out the door to Hospice, then a visit to Mom with little Bear, then my favorite local yarn shop where I purchased an acrylic worsted weight blend from Encore to make a coat for one of my dogs that is going bald.  New look, hairless shepherds.  I have a few minutes at the home office before heading back out, so I just have time to share this pattern with you.

I received this pattern 2 days ago and i just have to share it with you.  I am always looking for a pattern that knits quickly, but looks like I spent ages making. Brandi from c2knits fits that bill.  There are several worsted weight yarns in stock that would work with this pattern.  How about the Alpaca yarns from Artesano, or the Worsted weights from Lanas Puras?  Happy knitting!

Pattern of the Day -Need a New Shawl? Heritage Fiber Publications- Aspen Shawl

Yesterday I was able, finally, after several weeks, to take some much needed pictures.  Next step is to edit the 191 images I took and get the inventory up on the site.  That's right, 191 photos.  At least it was nice in the yard.  Except for the mosquitoes.  I started editing them last night.

Here is a pattern from the files today-
Heritage Fiber Publications has several wonderful shawl patterns.  This Aspen shawl was inspired by nature and the Estonian and Orenburg knitting traditions, this shawl is a joy to knit. Named for the leaves on the aspens in the Rockies, this is a nice project for gently shaded hand-painted yarn.

News Update and Pattern of the Day-Knitspot Leafprints

There is so much going on here all of the time.  So far this week the Motif of the Month Club started.  I also posted several new patterns from Anne Hanson from Knitspot.  I ordered more new patterns from c2knits.  The scarf pattern is almost finished for the Scarf of the Month Club to start.  I can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings in!

I've decided I will try to post a pattern picture daily.  I got the idea from my daughter, Tessa, who is participating in a photograph f the day somewhere on the internet.  There are so many lovely patterns in stock that we tend to forget they are there.  So here you go!

This is one of the newest patterns from Knitspot.  It is called Leafprints.  It is a download pattern.  It looks so warm and intriguing.  I could only where this for a few weeks here in the desert, but for all my friends in colder climates this just looks so luscious and warm.

Let's see what tomorrow brings!

Annoucing the OPYF Motif of the Month Club! Now Available!

Phew!  I finally figured out how to set this up on the website and we are ready to go.  I am going to copy and paste the info into this blog.  You'll see the same info on the website page, but this seemed to be the best way to get you the information.

One Planet Yarn and Fiber is in the process of creating several clubs for the yarn and fiber addict.  The first club to be offered is the "Motif of the Month Club".  Thank you to designer and dyer Amanda Perkins of the Natural Dye Studio for making this happen.  Future clubs to be offered are the "Sock of the Month Club" which will have yarns dyed exclusively for us by Amanda Perkins, the "Scarf of the Month Club" which will have Lanas Puras fingering weight yarn dyed by yours truly, and the "Fiber of the Month Club" which I am still working out the details for.  with the fiber club, I am not sure yet whether to dye the different rovings for the kit or to just include undyed fibers that you can dye yourself, or both?

Features
  • Why not join our OPYF Queenie's Crochet Motif of the Month Club?
  • Each month you will receive a motif pattern and the yarn used to make it. The yarn is dyed exclusively for the club, some months you will receive a 100gm skein and some months you will receive 100 gms of mini skeins. All yarn is dyed by the Natural Dye Studio. All motifs are designed by Amanda Perkins from the Natural Dye Studio.
  • Each motif is especially designed for the club and will be a different shape and size. The pattern will have a photo of a single motif and a photo of several crocheted together which will give you an idea of how they will look when you put them together. The pattern is for the motifs only but will give you some suggestions of what you can make with them.
  • All the motifs are designed to be as simple as possible, meaning they will be suitable for beginners and experienced crocheters, as long as you know the basic stitches which you can find in most instruction books and on-line you should have no problems.
  • The photographs on this listing are examples rather than the patterns you will get.
  • Our club yarn is dyed at the beginning of each month and shipped to OPYF so you will receive it during the third or fourth week of the month.

Mid-October Update and Events

Mid-October Newsletter - One Planet Yarn and Fiber
We've had a busy, busy first half of the month here.

Introducing c2knits, Stonehedge Fiber Mill Sheperd's Wool,  Jacquard Acid Dyes, Earthues Natural Dye kits, Thirteen Mile Lamb and Wool Co.

We've had a busy, busy first half of the month here.  All the patterns that I purchased from c2knits are now up on the website.  I've got a few in mind to do myself.  The Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd's Wool yarns are all up except for 3 more colors needing photos.  These yarns are used by many of the patterns from Noni Designs.

I have also added some totally new concepts to the store.  I now have in stock all 40 colors of Jacquard Acid Dyes.  I use these myself and love the versatility and ease of using them.  The only acid required is regular vinegar.

For the more environmentally conscience and adventurous of you, I have added in 3 different kits from Earthues Natural Dyes.  I love the color that I can achieve from my Indigo bucket, but I did not enjoy all the beetle parts and sawdust that made it's was into my roving for other natural dye ingredients.  Earthues has taken natural dyes to the next level so that they are as easy to use as acid dyes.  I'm thinking of getting one of the complete color kits for myself.

Of course the dyes do not matter if there is nothing to dye.  To that end I have purchased for sale several pounds of Certified Organic roving form Thirteen Mile Lamb and Wool.  The fibers are incredible and I am sure you will love spinning or felting with them, as is, or using your dye pots.  There is also some non-organic fiber from the same source.  a wonderful white Lomard Targhee.

What else is new?
There are several more Natural Dye Studio yarns colors in stock.  There are also one or two new patterns.  The yarns are so luscious.  I love the BFL sock yarns.

Coming Soon!
Noni Designs kits will be available later in the month.  The kits will include the yarn and pattern needed to make some of the Noni Designs felted bags.  Some of the kits will also include the hardware needed to complete the bags.  Philosopher's Wool Fair Isle kits will also be posted later this month.  The clubs for One Planet Yarn and Fiber will be posted with details quite soon.  Please sign up for thee clubs as soon as you can as the spaces will be limited.  The first club will be available next week.  It is the "Motif of the Month Club" for crocheters.  I will be my Lanas Puras Fingering each month for the next 3 months.  Each month will be a  different colorway and no 2 colors will be alike.  The first color is dyed and ready to go.  There is a pattern in the works using this colorway.  Please sign up for the One Planet Yarn and Fiber Blog to receive news more than twice a month.  I post there several times a week.

Your input is needed!

One Planet Yarn and Fiber will soon be introducing several clubs to the shop.  The first one will likely start in the middle of this month.   I would also like to start a fiber of the month club, either hand dyed or ecru roving for you to dye.  After the first of the year, The Natural Dye Studio will be dying yarns exclusively for a One Planet sock of the month club.  For crocheters out there, The Natural Dye Studio will be including us in their 2011 Motif of the Month club.  Please let me know if you are interested in any of these clubs so I can get an idea of the amount of supplies I will need.  Clubs will be 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months long.  The longer the club, the more little perks will be included as a member.

Shepherd's Wool Yarn and Thirteen Mile Organic Roving

I am slowly making my way through my "To Do" list.  I have added several things in to the store this week.

Almost all the colors from Stonehedge Fiber Mill are up.  These are great for using with Noni Designs Felted Bags.  3 more colors waiting for pictures.

I have also added in something that I felt needed to be added to the store.  I have added in undyed spinning fiber to the store.  Thirteen Mile Lamb and Wool has a fantastic herd of certified organic sheep.  I added in 4 types of organic and 1 type of non-organic, undyed roving.  I was in heaven as I opened the box.

Can't have undyed roving with out dye.  I added in Jacquard Acid Dyes in 1/2 ounce bottles.  They will dye up to 2 pounds of fiber.  There are 40 colors.  I've got about 10 up so far, with the rest coming.  All are here in the shop.

All the patterns I have from c2knits and Heritage Fiber are up.  There are new patterns from Natural Dye Studio as well.  New patterns still to come from Noni Designs and Knitspot.

Earthues Natural Dyes are on their way here  I got the bill last week, so any day now.

The kids and dogs are doing well.  Our dog Ranger is loving his new raw diet.  The others are jealous.  Little Bear and I have our Hospice visit in the morning.  My husband is slaving away at our pen shop.  We've got trunk shows there the next 3 Saturdays, so you know where I will be.

New Items Added This Past Week

As I sit here in my chair typing and wishing I had more hours at the computer this past week, I am reflecting back on what I actually accomplished.

Added to the store this week-
1.  c2knits patterns
2.  much more Natural Dye Studio yarns and 2 new patterns
3.  added new images in some areas
4.  received 3 boxes of organic roving
5.  received Jacquard acid dyes
6.  washed 5 unwashed fleeces
7.  ordered more inventory
8.  sold more inventory
9.  decided on the color I wanted to dye/dyed for the new "Scarf of the Month Club"
10. Started cleaning up new photos to add to the Stonehedge Fiber Mill page

I also went on my weekly Pet Therapy Team visit to Hospice with one of my dogs, found out another one of the dogs probably has the "C" word, ran errands, and spent time with my family.  Little Bear is the Hospice dog and Ranger is our dog now on a raw food diet.

We had a big storm here Tuesday.  We did sustain some hail damage at the house, but no one was hurt and the dogs were safe inside.  Our son's car has 36 dents in it.

So, next week I am planning on getting more inventory up on the website, including the Jacquard dyes and possibly Earthues if the box arrives.  I will let you all know when it comes in.  The fiber will hopefully be up there too next week.

Don't forget to use your October promotions codes from the October 1st blog.

Another Wonderful Pattern-Eva!

I am so looking forward to making this sweater.  I just have to decide what yarn to use.

Eva is a topdown, seamless, light-as-air sweater that looks as good with long sleeves as she does with none at all...the beaded edge is optional, it’s a great way to ‘dip your toe’ in the beading water!

Here is what I love about c2knits patterns-Just look at the sizes the pattern covers:
sizes: 32-35, 36-39, 40-43, 44-47

All of the patterns I purchased from c2knits are now shown on the website.  I am planning on ordering more very soon.

I hope all of you are doing well.  I am excited to have made it to my one month

Introducing Lantern Moon, Noni Designs, JULSilver, Heritage Fiber Publications and The Natural Dye Studio.

I am very excited to introduce new products to the store from some of my favorite companies.   From Lantern Moon there are now many types of beautiful Rosewood needles-straights, cable, repair hooks and the new circular needle, Destiny.  There are also stitch markers and the famous sheep measuring tape.  There are new patterns that have been added as well.   11 patterns from Nora Bellows of Noni Designs.  Beautiful felted patterns for bags of all types and some wonderful knitted sweaters.  Yarns that support these patterns are available, plus I will be adding 14 colors of Stonehedge Fiber Mill's Shepard's Wool to the site soon.  The wool is in the shop, just not posted yet.  Noni kits will be posted soon, too.  Noni Designs has a sister company, literally! Laura Bellows of  JULSilver works with artists from the Far East that produce hardware for purses and wonderful buttons.  I have stocked some of their buttons in two sizes from the Seed, Stem and Bark Collection.  The aroma from the cinnamon buttons is heavenly.  I've added in 10 new patterns from Heritage Fiber Publications.  I can't wait for you to see the little booklet they produced to carry along in your knitting bag.  And finally, we arrive at The Natural Dye Studio of England.  I was drooling as I worked at unpacking these fabulous fibers.  I only purchased one of each color, but I have since reordered and there will be more here in a week or two.  There are also 2 patterns from Amanda Perkins of NDS that use their yarns, more patterns coming soon.  Amanda loves to crochet and she has a fantastic eye for color and design.

What else is new?

There are 3 new patterns from LaLana Wools using Streakers yarn.  As always, I must constantly be adding in from Fleece Artist and HandMaiden.  There are new colors in Lady Godiva and new Merino spinning fibers in the big balls.  I ordered 12, there are 9 left, each one of a kind.  Artesano Aran yarns are here again and being refurbished on the website.

Your input is needed!
