Fleece Artist and Hand Maiden Yarns

Hello Friends,

We have lots and lots of Fleece Artist and Hand Maiden yarns and kits in the store but they are already going really fast, so we thought we should make announcement!! There are quite a few colors (over 25!!) of SeaSilk yarn, Sea Wool yarn (their new sock yarn), and Merino Sock Yarn. If a color disappears, it means it has sold or gone out of stock. Same with the kits! The sock yarns, SeaWool and Merino come as kits with a sock pattern right on the label. They are an incredible value for handpainted yarns and they come in such brilliant colors. SeaWool has 70% merino and 30% SeaCell and the yarn is washable! It has a gorgeous shine. Sea Silk is perfect for lace knitting and has an incredible shine because its contents are Silk and SeaCell. Sea Cell is related to tencel, by the way!

This yarn is so gorgeous, really the photographs don't do it justice. The yarn that comes with the kits comes in huge handpainted skeins that are works of hart. Here are a few examples. This is the very large skein of yarn that comes with the Soft Wavy Wrap. It was so large, I could not fit it on our photography background. It is just gorgeous. Most of these kits have sold, but there is one left I think. We will order it in a few more colors on the next order.

Here are just a few of large skeins of Scotian Silk Yarn (wool and silk) that are used for the Celtic Vest Kit. Again, the skeins of yarn are simply breathtaking.

I could keep posting hundreds of photos but you get the idea. Please go on line and take a look at all the fantastic colors.

Are you on our mailing list? If you aren't, make sure to sign up because we will be sending out an announcement in the next week or so about a spring sale. It doesn't include everything in the shop so don't wait if you see a product or color you like! Plus we have several new patterns releasing in the next few weeks.... So keep your eyes on this blog!

Thanks for looking and go look at all the gorgeous colors!!

Many New Items!!

Is it the end of March already??

We have many new items in the store this week and also lots and lots more that will be listed over the next weeks. Also watch for a special newsletter for our customers, but you must be on our mailing list to receive it. Sign up for the mailing list by registering on the site! We try hard to not send out too many emails and announcements.....

We have so many fun and new things in the shop. I wanted to just give a summary. First, we posted a new shipment of stitch markers and also gorgeous hand crafted beaded oriface hooks on the site. These were both created by Sereknity. I never used to use stitch markers until I tried a set of hers and I have to say I really love them!! Others I had tried in the past stuck on the needles or in the yarn and this never seems to happen with Sereknity's. Here is a photo of one that I just listed that is my favorite. She uses Swavorski crystals in every set and finds the greatest beads.

These oriface hooks are for spinners! If you have a spinning wheel, you know what these are for. You can tie one of these beautiful hooks right onto your wheel. This is a close up of one of my favorite spinning oriface hooks, also available in Sereknity's section at One Planet Yarn and Fiber.

Next, we have this incredibly gorgeous yarn that comes to us all the way from South Africa. Make sure to read about Alida and her company Rainbow handpainted and handspun on her web page at One Planet Yarn and Fiber. She hand dyes and spins all of this yarn herself. The fiber used is local South African merino sheep. The yarn is unbelievably squishy and soft and this is a single ply heavy DK weight yarn. This yarn would be gorgeous for many projects including scarves and shawls. We have met some fascinating and talented fiber people all over the world through One Planet and Alida is one of those people! Try a drop stitch scarf or shawl pattern to really show off this yarn! An example is the Ladder Scarf by Chris Bylsma in the pattern section of our web site. Or the Ladder Shawl if you want something bigger. These two patterns work great for yarns like this or any handspun. Alida's handspun is very consistent and can also be used when gauge is important.

We have another new Indie company, Chewy Spaghetti from California. Make sure to also read about Khris of Chewy Spaghetti on her section of One Planet. She names her various lines of sock yarns after different types of pasta like vermacelli and bucatini! Too cute! The yarn is gorgeous. Her color choices are great! Here is a sampling but there are more colors and fibers in her web section.

So, we have many great new yarns and fibers. Why stick with the same old same old. Try something new and different! It makes knitting and crochet a lot more fun! Keep watching this blog as well as the "what's new" section on our site for more new yarns. In the next weeks we have Fleece Artist and Handmaiden yarns and kits (too yummy for words), Hipknits yarns and patterns from England, new exclusive patterns for Yarn Botanika yarns and Lanas Puras yarns, and a new shipment of Yarn Pirate yarns and hopefully Sunshine yarns as well.! We are also working on a few light weight yarns for spring and summer knitting but remember if you start a sweater now, it might not be done until the fall!

Have a good week and dont' forget to join our mailing list if you are not on it!

Yarn Botanika Radiance Lace Headband Pattern Designed by Gina House

We are excited to introduce another new exclusive knitting pattern! This pattern uses
Yarn Botanika Radiance yarn in the sport/dk weight, but the fingering weight Radiance can also be used as can another hand painted yarn. The pattern is absolutely gorgeous and is a really great accessory. The pattern is available in download form and includes two separate lace patterns. The Radiance Lace Headband pattern was designed by the very talented Gina House. Have you listened to Gina's podcast Sleepy Eyes Knitting yet? If not, there is a link on her blog, so be sure to listen!

Here are a few photos of the headband. "Treat your tresses to two beautiful, beaded headbands....try the "Jacqueline", a relaxed and flexible lace head wrap for shorter, unruly manes or knit the "Amanda", a style that has a bit more width and texture for longer, thicker hair. Both are perfect for bringing fresh air and femininity to the face and neck....make wonderful gifts, as well! "

We also have kits available for this pattern. The kit includes a "mini-skein" of yarn (approximately 200 yards) as well as a hard copy of the Radiance Lace Headband pattern. The kits are available in six different colors........

My creation
Watch this space for more exciting new products this week. Handcrafted stitch markers and orifice hooks (for spinners) by Sereknity, beautiful handpainted yarns from Alida in South Africa and from Chewy Spaghetti. And then, absolutely incredible yarns and knit kits from Fleece Artist and HandMaiden in Canada. You will flip when you see these lovely items. We also have several new patterns coming in the next few weeks...a beautiful crochet shrug in Black Pearl Yarns cashmere by Angela Best, and another incredible Yarn Botanika pattern by Gina House.

If you want to keep up the new products as they are listed on the site, just keep checking the What's New Page every so often.. All of the new products are placed there in the order they are listed.

Thank you for looking and please check out Gina House's Radiance Lace Headband Patterns and the kits. This pattern is so beautiful, make sure to look at the close up photos so you can see the lace stitch pattern and the beading on the ends.

The week of 2/19/2007-update

Happy Presidents Day! A US national holiday for our many international readers. It is an interesting holiday created to celebrate the birth of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, two of our most famous presidents. We used to celebrate each of their birthdays separately and then it was combined into one holiday. Hope some of you are having a long relaxing weekend.

We have a lot of new products this week at One Planet and many more coming in the following weeks. Every week, I'll try to post a few photos about the products and also tell a bit of history about each company.

Sheep Shop Yarn Company

First, Sheep Shop Yarn Company. I mentioned them last week, but now that all the new colors are updated, I thought you should know a bit about them. I first read an article about the founder of Sheep Shop in the weekly Knitters Review newsletter. You can read this same article by clicking here: About Sheep Shop Yarn Company. This article really is worth reading and it is part of what turned me on to this company. Sheep One is a single ply worsted weight wool. Sheep Two is a double ply bulky wool and knits up fast. Both come in a huge variety of amazing colors. We will have Sheep Three, the new yarn, in a few weeks. The owner, Fonnie, sent us a skein of Sheep 3 and I fell in love. It is a lovely soft DK weight yarn that is 70% merino and 30% silk. it comes in many of the same incredible colorways and the silk adds a really nice shine.

What can you do with Sheep One and Sheep Two? Well Sheep Shop has some lovely patterns for both the worsted and bulky weights. They are also releasing another dozen or so patterns. The most popular patterns are these shown below.. Using Sheep Shop one, the bag (which I JUST LOVE) and also the Cabled Rib Pullover - look at that color!

For Sheep Shop Two, the most popular patterns are the Seamless Chunky Raglan Sweater (the yarn for this G43 sells out on a consistent basis) and also the Shawl Cardigan-look at the colors! This yarn is color F31 and if you like green, this is your color.
Seamless Shawl-Cardigan

We stock all the colors now of Sheep Shop but in quantity, many have to be special ordered, but that is ok, it doesn't take long. Just order the items and we will let you know the estimated time of arrival.
There is a special offer for the next month on Sheep Shop Yarns-and other items :) You still can use the discount code BLOG to get 10% off your order.. See what you get for being a faithful reader? Last week, many people took us up on this offer! Hint...the coupon is good for the whole month!

There are other patterns that work really well with the Sheep Shop Yarns. Make sure to check out our patterns sections for worsted weight yarn patterns and bulky weight yarn patterns for many other ideas. HINT-I am going to make Ariann by Chic Knits with colorway G148, an incredible new Sheep Shop Color. Sheep One would also work great for Wendy Bernard's Flair pattern.

Woolpets

This next company, Woolpets, really deserves an entire blog post of its own but we have so many new things it is hard to do. I first heard about Woolpets from my friend, the Yarn Pirate. She was raving on her blog about their needle felting kits. I just looked and she has photos up too!! I fell in love with them too, being a pet lover and fiber lover and all . I think I am going to make every one of them because I want to learn how to needle felt and I want to have my own little collection of Woolpets right here next to my computer while I work. One of the most interesting facts about Woolpets is that Laurie and her husband, the owner (gosh I don't know his name, sorry to refer to him as the husband! HAHA) raise their own sheep!! So all of the fiber for the Woolpets kits come from their own sheep. These make the cutest presents for just about any fiber lover including yourself. Make a sleepy sheep or a penguin..!

Coming Soon

Lots and lots of yarns from Yarn Botanika including tons of handpainted miscellaneous yarns (cashmere, silk, wool, etc) and the introduction of our new Radiance line of yarns. More about that later including a special pattern release and very cool kits designed by Gina House of Sleepy Eyes Knitting. We also have new shipments coming from Marions Sock Yarns in Germany (these are amazing) and the entire line of Hipknits Yarns and patterns from England. Within a few weeks, Llamajamas products will be here and also lots and lots from Fleece Artist and Handmaiden of Canada! These will all get their own special blog posts so keep an eye out!

Thanks for reading......And don't forget the BLOG discount code, just for you!

Flair - Lanas Puras Melosa a recommended yarn!

Have all of you seen Wendy Bernards new "Flair" pattern up at her blog? http://knitandtonic.typepad.com/knitandtonic/

Is that too cute for words or what?? NOTE that she mentions Lanas Puras Melosa as a substitute yarn!! I think we are going to actually order that yarn in chocolate brown in honor of this new pattern and call it Flair!! We are about to order some new solids anyhow, including eggplant, a pale pink and a pale blue. Plus we are getting a series of new colorways that we are designing ourselves.... A nice semi-solid chocolate might work great for that pattern too. Flair in eggplant? Fabulous....

Congrats on another winner pattern Wendy....!
Wendy is amazing. Isn't she a talented designer? She is a nice person too. What more can you ask for? Can you imagine what her book is going to be like??

We have so many yarns and things to post over the next week, keep your eyes peeled on the site........I'll show photos as we go along. We have lots of new spindles including new stone spindles and a new design in gorgeous glass. Wooldancer yarns from Australia are here and they are some of the most amazing sock yarns I have seen. Michele uses 100% pure Australian merino wool and you can just feel the quality. More aboutt his soon. I'll be making a readers gallery for photos on the site.

In new product news this week, we got a great shipment of yarns and fibers from Sereknity. Her work is simply top notch! There is no other way to say it. She uses very high quality fiber for her yarns. She sent us quite a few gorgeous sock yarns. Look at this Blue Hawaii followed by McIntosh. Her color sense and depth of colors in her dye is fantastic. If you like sock yarns, you really must try her yarns. They are also wonderful for shawls and other items.

Heather of Sereknity also sent in lovely spinning fibers. Her fibers are some of the very nicest I have truly ever seen. No felting here!! They are soft, fluffy, and draft easily. The colors are brilliant!! Check out my favorite one, IGGY!!

What else is coming soon... Wooldancer Yarns from Australia! I will post some photos and a bio about our fabulous indie dyer Michelle. We also have discovered some very interesting indie yarn spinners/dyers in other countries. We will be getting some incredibly beautiful yarns from South Africa soon from a most interesting fiber artist there. And also some lovely spring dyed merino from a woman in Germany. More on this soon. I'll try to post more about new products after they are in the store rather than before!

I also posted several new sock kits..... These include a hand sewn sock bag by Knitted bits, a handpainted skein of yarn, a set of Chiagoo Double pointed needles and a downloadable sock pattern. Here is a sample of one kit. These are a wonderful value and lots of fun too!!

That is it for now!

Amazing Scarves and Shawls from Chile

We mentioned Quedicha in a previous blog post. These absolutely gorgeous scarves and shawls are either woven or knit by hand by women who live in Chile. They work under the direction of an amazing young woman named Vivi. I have seen items just like this in art galleries for two to three times this price! Really, she should charge more for her work! The photographs don't even capture how beautiful the color and fibers are. All of them are very soft and made with unusual fibers that are not found often in the US.

All of Quedicha's items can really be worn year round as they are so light and soft and because of the fibers she uses, they seem to breathe.

Visit our Quedicha from Chile section on One Planet Yarn and Fiber to see all of the scarves and shawls. We will be getting some other really interesting items soon including handwovens for the home like pillows and also some handcrafted shawl pins. We love working with Vivi as she is such an extremely devoted and talented young woman. Thanks Vivi for all your hard work on our behalf! She literally has combed the Chilean countryside looking for items for One Planet Yarn and Fiber and we appreciate it!!

Here are two samples of two of my favorite shawls. This first one is hand knit and I am in love with the colors!! It is so soft!!

This second shawl is handwoven and is a bright multicolor shawl. I have to admit, our new model looks good in everything she wears!

Other news this week..... We have a new pattern releasing in just a few short days!. This is an incredible pattern using Black Pearl Yarns cashmere. It only uses a small amount which is what is so wonderful. The pattern was designed by Angela Best who also designed this well known Bolero you see below. You might recognize this from the Stitch N Bitch Crochet book by Debbie Stoller.

Remember this very popular pattern??
image001

The Week of January 20th

A great deal is going to be happening in the next few weeks. Here is an update.

First if you go to the Lanas Puras section of the store, you will notice some big changes. That is because we will be greatly expanding our line of artisan yarns from South America. There are four lines of yarns and each of them will come in various weights. The Lanas Puras merino yarn that has been very popular is now listed under the name "Melosa". Melosa means sweet in Spanish. We are getting a new order in tomorrow so please watch the store because the fingering weight colors sell out very quickly. We have several new colors coming in in all three knitting weights. Melosa is simply a fantastic yarn. It a very soft spun merino in beautiful colors. The lace and fingering weight are a single ply which add to their unusual beauty. The worsted weight makes a beautiful sweater, as you will see this week...

Clarissa is another gorgeous yarn that comes from Argentina. I flipped when I saw this yarn because I am always in search of non-wool yarns to make items out of. It is pretty soft, but it can be mixed with any other yarn, even a single strand cotton would give it more structure. It can be used alone in shawls or scarves but probably should be mixed with something for other use. We hope to develop some interesting patterns for this. Designers take note! If you want to challenge yourself, this would be a wonderful yarn to do it with.

Here is a photo of Clarissa and it will be in stock within two weeks:

There are other yarn lines, including Calma, that will be here in a few months!!!! You will love it:)

We have the cutest pattern on earth releasing this week. It is by Wendy Bernard of Knit and Tonic, one of my favorite designers to work with, and one of the nicest people I have met in this industry! This sweater is honestly too adorable for words! Watch this site on about Wednesday for details!!

Also we have many other patterns releasing in the next two-three months. Felted kits, felted bags, sweaters, crochet camisoles and shrugs, shawls, socks, etc... We have some extremely talented designers working with us. A speical thank you to our talented Creative Director Melissa who is unbelievably talented, creative and smart and who makes me laugh each and every day.

We are adding several new internationally based companies. You can read about Llamajamas and HipKnits on our site. We are lucky to have both of these companies-more about them soon! We also will be adding Marie Grace's patterns in download and hardcopy form so we are thrilled about this.

This week we are receiving in the mail, an incredibly gorgeous line of handwoven and handknit shawls from Chile. These are made by Vivi who is a very talented fiber artist. Vivi and I have become good friends and we email a lot. I find her to be one of the most talented fiber artists I have ever met. Her items have a real artisan look to them and are so creative!. We hope to carry many more of her items so please keep an eye on her store section on One Planet. Here is a scarf/shawl that we will be getting. Vivi uses local fibers, naurally dyed materials and mixes and matches fibers and colors in unusual and astounding ways. YES, we are CRAZY about Quedicha!

Yarn Botanika will have a complete rehaul and there will be 7 or 8 new yarns! We are also super excited about this. I will make a separate post about this sometime next week! But watch for quite a few yarns pouring into the site.

We are also researching many other companies and we will be adding them slowly. We are planning a new section of the site that will carry all "Made in America" yarns. These are yarns that are spun from the fiber of local sheep, many from small farms and many organic.

If you ever have suggestions for unusual yarns, fibers, spindles, patterns, or other accessories related to knitting, crochet or spinning, drop us a line! Just click on CONTACT US on the top navigation bar of the site.

Happy week of January 20th!

What is new??

We have quite many new items with more coming.

A few weeks ago, wee got in this beautiful Fiber Jewelry from Rebecca Smith. We met her at an art fair and couldn't believe the earrings and pendants were made from fine fiber. They really are beautiful and they go with many items. Please see Rebeccas work under her section on our site.

We have quite a few patterns from Heartstring listed on the page now. It is wonderful that all of these patterns are available to you in download format!! Heartstrings patterns are some of the best patterns I have seen. They are written very clearly and have good charts. Please check the section called Heartstrings on the site under Patterns by yarn company. Here are photos of one beautiful scarves/shawls: Crest of the Wave. This would be beautiful in Lanas Puras lace weight yarn or Yarn Botanika merino and tencel yarn.

We also just listed theBees Knees Patterns and they are now all up on the site although the photos still need some fine tweaking. These patterns are too cute!! They were designed for sock yarn (solids and self-patterning) which is such a clever idea! BUT, they also work fantastically with handpainted yarns which is why I got them.

Here are two of my favorites! Avery and Ruby.

We have even more patterns we purchasing soon and also a few more pattern releases soon, two Lanas Puras sweaters for children and the cutest crochet tops in Black Pearl Cashmere yarn.
